To meet the industry’s high technical requirements, Gröditz has seven branch plants with high capacity electric arc furnaces with a maximum ingot weight of 140 tons and electroslag remelting plants with a maximum ingot mass of 84 tons and a maximum diameter of 1600 mm and the highest degree of purity.

German Gröditz XPM mould steel is a chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy steel that falls into the pre-hardening plastic mould steel category.

The pre-hardening is good, the hardenability is improved, and the hardness distribution of large cross-sectional thick plates is uniform, with superior machining and polishing properties, thanks to the reasonable addition of 1% nickel content. Furthermore, the purity, tissue uniformity, and polishing effect are excellent, and the welding performance, sunburst performance, and polishing performance of XPM are superior to that of steel 2738.

XPM steel is widely used in large plastic moulds, mould frames, and moulds that require a high finish requirement, such as hard plastic (PS) and super hardened plastic (ABS).

Gröditz XPM plastic mould steel is primarily used in plastic moulds with high mould surface effect requirements, as well as plastic moulds with thicknesses greater than 400mm, such as TV housings and backshells, copier housings, automotive dashboard moulds, and large external parts.

Purity test:

According to ASTME45-A (A sulfide 1.5, B oxide, C silicate and D globular oxide 2 each); or refer to DIN50602-K420; or as per customer’s requirement.
