Mould Steel

GRIZ 1.2738 mold steel is a pre-hardening plastic mold steel with about 1% Ni content, good pre-hardening. Due to the addition of nickel elements to improve its hardening performance, large cross-section thick plate hardness distribution. It is mainly used in large plastic molds and mold frames, such as automobile bumpers, TV shell molds, etc. It is suitable for molds requiring high finish, such as the production of hard plastic PS and super unhardened plastic ABS, etc.

Glitz 1.2738 pre-hardened plastic mold steel has the following characteristics:

Excellent plus I properties, easy cutting and polishing and electro-etching, uniform cross-sectional hardness;

High polishability, good toughness, can be nitrided or chrome plated;

Pre-hardened plastic mold steel, can be nitrided;

Surface treatment (e.g. chrome plating) is possible;

Due to the moderate amount of nickel content added to 1.2738 mold steel by Gritz Steel, it has uniform hardness, superior machinability and polishability. It is suitable for large plastic molds, especially those with thickness over 400mm, which require uniform hardness, high toughness and good surface polishing performance, such as TV frames and backshells, copier cases, bumpers, shock absorbers, instrument panels and other large molds, as well as trash can molds and mold-casting molds.

Carburizing treatment: temperature 850~940°C, time depends on the depth of product demand. If the carburizing temperature exceeds 880°C and the time exceeds 2 hours, normalization must be performed to maintain the fine grain size. After carburizing, the product is cooled to 830°C in a furnace, quenched in oil after homogenizing, and then tempered at a temperature as listed to increase the surface hardness and increase wear resistance. If only hardness is required, but not fine grain size, it can be quenched at carburizing temperature above 880°C.
