To meet the industry’s high technical requirements, Gröditz has seven branch plants with high capacity electric arc furnaces with a maximum ingot weight of 140 tons and electroslag remelting plants with a maximum ingot mass of 84 tons and a maximum diameter of 1600 mm and the highest degree of purity.

Gröditz 1.2316 plastic mould steel is refined using traditional melting EF+LF+VD technology; it is a chromium-nickel-manganese alloy mould steel, also known as W.1.2316.

The steel has excellent polishability and photo-etching engraving performance; excellent machinability and good wear resistance; uniform hardness and dense organisation for large moulds; no risk of quenching and heat treatment deformation; and good surface nitriding performance.

Gröditz 1.2316 plastic mould steel can be flame hardened to improve surface hardness and wear resistance.

Gröditz 1.2316 plastic mould steel is a pre-hardened plastic mould steel with excellent polishing properties when polished with aluminium oxide or plaster. Rough polishing comes first, followed by polishing with increasingly fine abrasives; with each change of abrasive, the polishing direction should be changed; and the final polishing time should not be too long, as this will affect the roughness of the mould surface.

Gröditz 1.2316 plastic mould steel is suitable for highly corrosive plastic environments, as well as for tools and moulds.
